Communities We Serve
In a country where the educational deficit is one of the most acute globally, where roughly 4 million children are not in school due to three decades of economic and social unrest, the foundation started its first educational program here in 2015.
The foundation is grateful to provide free education to nearly six hundred students yearly across two schools. Lunches, stationery, and uniforms were provided to every student to make learning possible.
We work diligently with local authorities, community leaders, elders and partners to build trust and partnership. Our goal is to provide quality education to nomadic, pastoralist and other out-of-school children who have been successful.
Challenges
In Recent years Nomadic population lost their only source of income, livestock, due to the extreme drought. The drought conditions were worsened by civil Unrest in the region, which led to their repeated displacement. Consequently, most of the children in the Gal-Barwaaqo community have never received a formal education of any kind.
In many areas across the region, parents are not able to fund their children's education. This is due to various conditions including poverty, long distances to school, safety concerns, gender disparities, lack of teachers, and the low availability of sanitation facilities.
Commitment to education.
Education will transform their way of life as the environmental changes have made it impossible for their nomadic life to continue. The education will provide the tools needed to revolutionize their lives and that of their communities.
