Global Celebration of Generosity: November 30, 2021
Every year, on the Tuesday after the US Thanksgiving, people around the world take the time to kick off the holiday season by giving back to their community. Whether it is donating money to a charitable cause or volunteering, #GivingTuesday is a day set to benefit the community in an extraordinary way.
This holiday was first announced in September 2012. The intention and purpose of the day were to inspire people and companies to take action. Taking inspiration from Black Friday and Cyber Monday created a framework for retailers to sell merchandise.
Join the celebration of generosity with ideas for individuals and small businesses below.
Individuals:
1. Volunteer your time (safely) at a soup kitchen or food pantry this weekend.
2. Organize a holiday drive to collect gifts, warm clothes, and treats for a family in need during these upcoming holidays.
3. Give to your favourite charity or go on GoFundMe and support a cause that speaks to you
4. Thank a teacher. Write a note to a teacher from your past or send a gift card to the one you know now
Small Businesses:
When most people hear the word philanthropy, they tend to connect it with wealthy business owners, but there are plenty of ways to get involved with philanthropy without exhausting your finances.
1. Align Your Giving With Business Priorities.
Tie your philanthropy into your mission and make sure that your giving aligns with your business priorities.
2. Develop A Culture Of Giving Back.
Incorporating a culture of giving back to others should be encouraged throughout the company. Align the purpose of the business with something bigger than just revenues and profits.
3. Partner With A Local Organization
Developing a partnership with an organization in your local community is an effective approach. Keep it local and community-driven. Align corporate values with social concerns will also double the impact to get teams involved in volunteering opportunities
